Lamination may be a finish that you’re most familiar with. It has been around for a very long time and is applied to a lot of promotional and business print materials.

When a piece of card or paper is covered with a thin layer of plastic, this is known as lamination; not to be confused with encapsulation. Encapsulation seals the paper/card all the way around, leaving a lip of plastic around the perimeter. Lamination adds an element of durability to your work, protecting it from marks, stains, grease and damage. For this reason, lamination is the perfect choice for printing that is handled regularly. Think about business cards; they float around in your bag, purse, wallet or briefcase until you hand them to someone who will keep it on their desk. After all that, you still want your business card to look new and professional, and lamination can help with that. If you use, (and re-use) training manuals and staff handbooks lamination allows you to keep using them for longer without damage.

So why do we offer two types of lamination? Well, it’s so you can choose the most suitable design for your needs. A gloss finish is exactly that, glossy, shiny and light reflective. It gives your printing a more appealing look, and the colours appear brighter and richer. Matt lamination may appear duller than gloss and colours may appear paler, but it is considered to be a more sophisticated choice. If first impressions mean everything to your business, then matt is the perfect choice for producing high-quality printing. The major drawback with matt is that it doesn’t provide the same level of protection as gloss lamination. It is more likely to scratch and show fingerprints so this should be taken into account when making a final decision.
