Our print shop is in Newcastle city centre. We work with students at Newcastle University, Northumbria University and nearby Newcastle College, including those coming in from Jesmond, Heaton, Sandyford and Fenham. You can upload a file before collection, or contact the team to discuss a project that needs several different printed pieces.

Dissertation, thesis and report printing and binding

Your department’s submission instructions come first: check the required page size, margins, single- or double-sided printing, cover, binding method and number of copies. We can print the document and offer thermal, wire, comb, saddle-stitched and perfect binding. Wire binding lets pages open flat; comb binding is useful where pages may need to be changed; thermal binding creates a neat adhesive spine; and perfect binding gives a report or thesis a book-style finish.

Paper options listed on our student service include weights from 52gsm to 350gsm, with silk, gloss, matt and specialist finishes available according to the job. Portfolios, magazines, art books and perfect-bound projects

Creative work deserves a format chosen for how it will be viewed. We print portfolios, magazines, art books, reports and project brochures, whether you need a single presentation copy or several copies for an assessment or event. Tell us the finished size, page count and whether the work contains full-page images or spreads. We can then discuss paper, covers and binding before you commit to printing the whole project.

For a book-style finish, Metro Repro uses PUR perfect binding. The specifications on our existing page allow a spine thickness of up to 40mm and a spine length of up to 340mm. Its published example is a 50-page A4 book on 150gsm silk, printed and perfect-bound for £32.50, with next-day collection from 8:30am. If your project is shorter or needs to open more easily, ask whether a different binding style would suit it better.

Booklets and brochures for coursework and degree shows

A booklet can bring research, photography, illustrations or a series of designs together in a format people can take away and read. Our booklet and brochure printing covers papers from 52gsm to 350gsm, including silk, gloss, matt, uncoated and specialist stocks. The existing student page gives an example of three 50-page A4 booklets on 150gsm silk, saddle-stitched for £49 and ready within two hours. Ask us to confirm the appropriate binding, page setup and production time for your own file.

Presentation posters and exhibition displays

We print posters from A4 to A0 and custom large-format sizes for research presentations, design reviews and degree shows. The student page lists photo satin, gloss, premium matt and fine-art papers, with printing up to 1524mm wide. It also describes a 12-colour large-format process certified by Adobe and Pantone. Choose a finish with the display setting in mind: text-heavy work must remain readable, while photographs and illustrations may call for a different paper.

The existing page quotes A2 prints from £8.40 and budget laser-printed posters from £5.94. Colour copying and everyday document printing

Not every student job is a final submission. Metro Repro also prints lecture materials, draft projects, presentation handouts and everyday documents in colour or black and white. Our existing student page lists A4 colour printing from under 15p per side. If a report only needs colour for selected charts, photographs or diagrams, tell us which pages those are when requesting a price. We can print a single copy if that is all you need.

CAD plans and technical drawings

Architecture, engineering, construction and design courses can require plans at an exact sheet size and scale. Our CAD and plan printing service covers black-and-white or colour drawings, reproduction of originals, multiple sets and folding. Available materials listed on the site include bond paper, tracing paper, drafting film and cartridge paper. Send the required scale, finished sheet size, file format and number of sets with your enquiry so we can discuss the right output.

Other student project and career materials

We can print CVs on a choice of papers from 52gsm to 350gsm. For screen-printing projects, Metro Repro also produces tracing-paper positives on tracing paper, film or acetate; the existing student page lists these from under £1. Students preparing for a degree show, interview or industry event can also order business cards. The main student page currently quotes 50 cards on 400gsm board from £24, with matt or gloss lamination included.

Before you send your artwork

Export a final PDF where possible and open it separately to check the page order, text, images and finished size. Remove comments and tracked changes. For bound work, check that text and page numbers have room at the spine; for posters, check that small labels are readable at the final size. If your course has issued printing or submission rules, send them with the file. You can use our file upload facility once you know what you need printed.

Deadlines, collection and extra help

Many student jobs can be produced while you wait or on the same day, depending on the file, quantity, materials, finishing and work already scheduled. Call before travelling if your deadline is close: the team can confirm whether your particular job is possible and agree a collection time. The existing student service also offers weekend printing by prior arrangement where possible, at no extra charge; this must be arranged directly with the team because the shop’s published regular hours are Monday to Friday.
