Top tips for a high-quality folded flyer

A flyer can be a powerful way to communicate with potential customers. A folded flyer gives you the ability not only to be more creative but to share more information too. However, this opens up your design to more mistakes. With more space, it is easy to over-complicate your design, resulting in a cluttered and confused flyer. The aim of a flyer, folded or not, is to encourage new and repeat custom. At Metro Repro, we wanted to share some top tips for creating a high-quality flyer.

Type of fold

There are several ways of folding a flyer, but there are three folds that are most popular. The single fold is the simplest, as the name suggests it is just one-fold. Most commonly used for recipes or product advertisements. This type of fold isn’t confusing, and everyone will understand how the leaflet unfolds.

A letter fold, as you may expect, is a leaflet that folds into three like a letter. This is most commonly seen on takeaway menus, maps or informational pamphlets. This choice of fold is perfect for businesses that want to include a map or large graphics on their advertising. It allows your folded flyer to remain small and neat but unfolds to a large size with a lot of information.

A gate fold allows you to be a little more creative with your design and would be a good choice for businesses that are wanting to advertise a new product or service. This type of flyer folds in a way that the reader opens it by unfolding two panels that meet in the middle, much like a gate, this type of fold allows for a big reveal, great for a new product or service.

Know your audience

The point of sending out a flyer is to communicate with your existing and potential customers. You need to understand your audience to better connect with them. Build a profile of your typical customer, their likes and dislikes and how your product/service will benefit them. All of this information will help you to design a folded flyer that captures your audience’s attention and encourages them to find out more.

Use visuals

A flyer full of writing and no images will go straight in the bin; no one is going to take the time to read all of the waffle you have printed after all a picture paints a thousand words. Images are much more interesting than reading a lengthy paragraph, and you can usually communicate your point a lot clearer with an image. When printing, ensure that all of your graphics and images are crisp and clearly defined, the quality of the images will reflect the quality of your product/service. The images that you choose should be relevant and where possible, should be unique rather than stock images.

Think like a customer

Try and put yourself in the customer’s position. Rather than reeling off the many features of your product, tell them how it will specifically benefit them. Consider the type of imagery and language that resonates with your target audience. Your flyer should be helping you to achieve a specific goal, answering these questions and thinking like your customer will help you to achieve this goal.

Clear call to action

Your flyer might be perfectly designed, loads of information and great pictures, but if there is no clear, call to action then there is really no point in sending it out. Include your contact details and make sure they are correct. Whether it’s going online, sending an email, using a discount code or calling you, make your call to action clear.

The final consideration to make is whether you choose to print in-house or send it to a professional. A professional printer will ensure that your folded flyers are finished in the highest-quality. At Metro Repro, we offer a range of paper stock and finishes. We use the latest technology so your colours will be vibrant and your flyer will stand out.
